Proper Insulation. Calculation accuracy assumes your home is properly insulated and sealed. Factors such as poor attic insulation, old windows, or significant air leaks can diminish the efficiency gains of a high-SEER2 system.
Ductwork. The efficiency ratings provided assume your ductwork is properly sized and free of leaks. According to the Department of Energy, typical duct systems can lose up to 20% to 30% of the air that moves through them. Existing ductwork issues may prevent you from reaching the full estimated savings.
Thermostat Habits. Your personal thermostat habits—such as frequently lowering the temperature below recommended settings or leaving doors/windows open—will affect your total energy bill regardless of the system’s SEER2 rating.
Professional Maintenance. To maintain the efficiency levels calculated here, the system must be professionally maintained. Neglected filters, dirty coils, or low refrigerant levels will cause the system to work harder and consume more energy than projected.
